Day Habilitation Bethpage
FREE’s Theater Day Habilitation program provides opportunities for differently-abled individuals to increase their independence in our Old Bethpage facility.
This program emphasizes the enhancement of mental and physical fitness skills through theater-related arts, prevocational opportunities, and life experiences. Working as part of a team to enhance appropriate social behaviors, communication skills, age-appropriate activities and routines, and develop pre-vocational skills, participants produce two main-stage shows a year The desire to participate in the on-stage productions motivates individuals to overcome social and behavioral challenges.
By utilizing their natural talents through personal choice of varied and flexible program options in theater-related arts, individuals can participate in all aspects of theatre production. These include designing promotional materials, set pieces, properties and costumes, creating programs and fliers, arranging traveling performances, and assisting in other activities necessary for a successful production.
The Theater Arts Day Program at Family Residences and Essential Enterprises offer adults with developmental disabilities a new world with real possibilities for growth. They can be free to talk about what they are feeling, realize their talents and learn the tools needed to live a productive and happy life. Their sense of belonging and self worth increases while helping them to manage their behaviors. The FREE Players experience many positive achievements and become inspired to reach their highest potential.

Each participant will develop, along with the program team, a detailed Plan of Services (day habilitation and/or prevocational) focused on achievement in theater while enhancing independence, interdependence (teamwork), integration, individualization and productivity.
Each day is designed to afford individuals the opportunity to explore their natural talents through personal choice and flexible options. Participants begin each day with a session where they have the opportunity to choose from a variety of experiences that match their individualize service plan. Group activities take place in the Day Hab center and in the community. Program staff provides oversight and guidance in all activities. Nursing and psychological supports are available to assist participants when needed.
