Family members often look for ways to participate in the system of care that supports their loved one. A particularly important need is in advocating for adequate government funding and appropriate laws to protect the rights of people with disabilities.

We welcome participation in the FREE Legislative Action Committee:

  1. Attend our quarterly meetings for updates on legislation that impacts individuals with disabilities and their caregivers.
  2. The Action Committee coordinates meetings with your legislators in your home district, in Albany and in Washington.
  3. Members are asked to participate in letter-writing and phone campaigns to advocate around important and timely legislation.

FREE has many opportunities for adults and teens to volunteer in direct service capacities as well. These include:

  • assisting at programs
  • special events
  • visiting individuals who are temporarily hospitalized
  • fundraising events
  • college internships
  • corporate volunteer projects at program sites
