Families Volunteering

Interested in Volunteering?
Family members often look for ways to participate in the system of care that supports their loved one. A particularly important need is in advocating for adequate government funding and appropriate laws to protect the rights of people with disabilities.
We welcome participation in the FREE Legislative Action Committee:
- Attend our quarterly meetings for updates on legislation that impacts individuals with disabilities and their caregivers.
- The Action Committee coordinates meetings with your legislators in your home district, in Albany and in Washington.
- Members are asked to participate in letter-writing and phone campaigns to advocate around important and timely legislation.
FREE has many opportunities for adults and teens to volunteer in direct service capacities as well. These include:
- assisting at programs
- special events
- visiting individuals who are temporarily hospitalized
- fundraising events
- college internships
- corporate volunteer projects at program sites
